The 3 tackles

Hi everyone!!

These are our three proposals for the house chore problem!

1. Smart washing machine

2. Smart houses with white chambers technology

3. House chores friend app!

We will explain in detail and further develop on Wednesday 12th during Innovation class.

Cheers!!

The five Ws

Sometimes is interesting to answer some basic questions to have a good knowledge about an information. The five Ws (and one H) is a good method to reach this goal. It consists of what, when, where, who, why and how questions and answer them. During the last innovation class we did an exercise using this method to answer some questions related with our innovation project. We were divided into groups of five people, each of us belonging to different project teams, and each member taking a paper with a word related to their projects and the five Ws. Once all questions were answered by one member, the paper was passed to the next member, until the five Ws were filled by each member of the group, so that finally five papers were completed.

In conclusion, it was a great way to get what people ask themselves about house chores, noticing their problems. Next step will be analyze the problems we didn't register yet and design a solution.

Analog and Antilogs

Analog

  • Laundries. Some of them include wash & fold. That service include washing the clothes by cold, warm, or hot water, ironing and folding every piece of laundry. Saves a lot of time, but the price is not very cheap, but is very easy for the user. An example can be seen here.

  • Roomba. It is a robot designed to substitute a vacuum cleaner. Thanks to the success of this product, other companies, like Samsung or LG, now try to develop and sell similar products in this area.
Is a good option because it is automatic, saves time, and also is not very expensive.

Antilogs

  • DrIron. It was a white good developed by Fagor which dry and iron all clothes. Good idea to avoid ironing, saving time to the customers. But it was a failure because it was very expensive (1800 Euros) and size near 2 meter tall.

  • Disposable clothes. It was something eith linited popularity in the US in the 60s. It's a good idea because it's affordable, and also avoids some problems. Although they were treated for fire and water-resistance, paper dresses required wearers to be constantly on guard against lit cigarettes, spilled cocktails, sudden showers and other hazards. More info can be found here.

CANVAS Strategy Industry

After analize the results of the surveys and interviews, we determined the main values of the solution needed by our market segment. Also we defined different altenatices in this sector and asigned different "weights" to them in all the areas.

So as can be seen in the chart the main values required by our segment, is price, timeand space that the solution needs. So must be the key values of the solution that we are going to develop.

Personal Interviews

Surveys weren't enough...

Sooo there we GO!
We wanted to know MORE! key words were...LET THEM TALK!
Basicaly, we needed real people to deep dive in their thoughts. We needed to dig into their feelings, empathize with them...
Because, what is important to know, is that the highlights of the interviews are not what is said, but what is not. Real clues and conclusions about their feelings and emotions are hiden, and come unveiled when letting them express freely...

Surveys

Once we identified our "personas" our goal was to be able to match those profiles with real people. This helped us to observe and investigate the target market we are dealing with.

In order to do so, we sent a form  with several questions regarding the house chores issue. Throught these questions (Figure 1) we were trying to find out if:
  • Do our customers consider house chores a problem?
  • Which of the most common duties is the one that annoys them the most?
  • Would they like to save more time on house chores?
  • How much would they like to invest on this purpose?

Figure 1. Extract of some questions.

Figure 2. Final results.

Following this form, we were able to study the results (Figure 2) and figure out some conclusions:
  • We are aiming young (18-30), employed and busy people.
  • They all identified house chores as a problem or an issue they want to solve.
  • Laundry is the activity that bothers them the most.
  • They want to reduce the time invested on house chores.
  • Most of them are not willing to spend more than 20€ per month.

Creating Personas

Creating personas

We were facing the problem of defining a person, so we started with a blank empty human

We defined first of all the main characteristics of the person like gender, age, race....

This was the first step and easiest one, afterwards we started defining profession, studies and hobbies.

Later on, we try to identify her enviroment, and what influence her the most.

One we had done all this steps, we basically got as much into defining Laura that we invented her whole life, thinking as if we were writing a biography or filming Laura's life.

....being finally able to understand her feelings.
